First Year of College

This is a little late. July is just around the corner but classes ended in Mid-May. Better late than never.

The first year of college is an experience I will never forget. There were so many ups and downs throughout the year.

Classes are a story all in their own. Some classes would kill you with the work load while others were so easy that I could write or use my phone and still get an A. It all depended on the subject and the professor so this is not a one-size-fits all situation. However, once you get into your 3000 and 4000 level courses, junior and senior, then the classes are more difficult and attention has to be paid.

Involvement is something very important and something to look into while in college. Involvement makes connections and connections are important in your life further down the line. Whether it be in making connections that land an internship or a job, or connections to get into graduate school, or a simple reference, being involved in any sort of organization on campus will give you a boost during your time in college. By making the connections early on during your freshman year, it is even better as the people you connect with will know you more by the end of your undergraduate career.

People you meet either in class or in clubs is also another part of the college experience. Some people you will meet and click with in a heartbeat, becoming amazing friends. Others will rub-off against you like oil does to water; they just can’t mix. Some can hide, and it will take practice to find out who those people are that are pretending to be friends but are just there to be popular and have a large friend group. Among those people could be possible romantic interests, as I have seen many friends enter relationships during their first year of college.

Lastly, there could be much more to write but I want to keep it short and sweet, there is the aspect of being away from family. There are people that live with family and drive to college, but my focus is on being away from family because that is what I know. The one thing I know for sure for my friends that are commuters is that many had family issues because the family wanted to see them more, but it wasn’t as easy as going to school and studying at home like in high school.

Being away from home put a strain on my family and me. It isn’t easy, was never easy and won’t be easy for the next few years. Having a support system is important, whether it be close friends, family, or even clubs. I managed to find that in Greek life but not everyone has to do that. During the academic year, I would become ill more frequently due to stress and not knowing how to cope. Without my family nearby, I would often wonder how I could handle being alone. I could but also couldn’t. Missing family was also a big proponent, having spent very little time away from family.

So many decisions made, but in the end it is worth it. Getting involved and meeting people is important along with taking classes seriously. You’re paying for them so be serious and do the work, do not screw around. But then again, college is an individual basis, each person will have different experiences. Make the most of it.

Human Angel

If we could stop and look around,

What would you see in front of you?

You would see people,

Different than you,

But human nonetheless.

Some are afraid of home,

Coming to freedom with nothing

Other than what they wear,

Yet people fear the worst

From those most desperate,

For aid, clothes, food,

Things we take for granted.

They are human,

Like you and I.

Help the helpless,

Aid a human like you,

Fear not their helplessness,

Provide a helping hand,

Be an angel to a human in need.

Election Day

As a collective body who voted in the primaries and chose the nominee indirectly, those who were allowed to vote have quite possibly ruined America, and I congratulate you. I thank you for giving me, an 18 year old Latino-American male, some of the worst choices for president. This is my first time voting, my first ever election, and I am simply appalled. And for that, I also congratulate you.

Now, I know that not everyone supported the criminals who lead the two major parties. That is understood because I myself supported Governor John Kasich and Senator Bernie Sanders, each of the opposing parties. However, enough people supported the clowns, and well, here we are. Today is Election Day. The day where America will be ruined for 4 years. Whoever the president is in 2020 will have to do plenty of repairing. I sincerely hope whoever wins will lose as an incumbent.

Let us look at the facts. Both are criminals. One has not paid federal taxes in nearly 20 years. The other has handed out classified information like candy in electronic messages. One has blood running all over them, has caused so much loss of life. The other has been a racist towards many communities and has been charged with being sexually aggressive and derogatory to an entire sex. One will ruin the job market in America, the other has refused to pay workers. Both of their economic plans will ruin the United States economy, sending us deeper into debt.

I mean, they have good qualities. I would assume. They have picturesque records. With dirt and blood covering most of that record. Is it possible that they know what they are doing? Possibly but also possibly not.

This post is not meant to sway anybody, everyone has their opinions. Sadly, the voices of many went unheard or were overshadowed by the screams of the few clowns. But there is nothing to do now. It is simply a matter of voting or having voted, and waiting for the results later in the evening.

For those who say that voting third-party is a wasted vote; a third-party vote is not a wasted vote. I am voting my conscience and voicing my opinion as to who can lead this country best. However, the two-party makes it virtually impossible for third-parties to have major support. Things must be changed and soon. This ridiculousness will continue to hurt us as time goes on.

I will not reveal my vote to the public. I hold my vote to my knowledge and will reveal it to others in due time, and I will reveal it to whoever asks. However, I will not put it out on display for the simple fact that you don’t always publicly announce who you voted for.

Congratulations once again America! You, the people who voted for the two heads, have done so much. There is no way to repay.

Have a good day America!

We are human. We as a society cannot harm another human for simply being different. Everyone is different, no one is the same. The only sameness among us is that we are flesh and blood humans. Never hurt anyone for being different.

We are no different from each other

Than the atoms of life

That form plants and animals.

Individually unique but stronger together,

We are one and we are human.

Blood runs through our veins

And bones lie beneath our skin

And our skins come in different shades;

But we all share one commonality,

We are all human.

A soul resides among us all.

The soul makes us who we are.

The soul makes us human,

Provides us with our humanity,

Gives us dreams and passion.

Straight or gay or in between,

Black or white or in between,

Atheist or Christian or other,

Male or female or trans or anyone else,

We are unique and we are human.

Our community harbors many communities,

Allowing for many diverse regions

And diverse, wonderful people

Full of unique ideas and dreams

That can change the entire world.

But our society has allowed for

Hate to permeate the air and for cracks

To destroy our dignity and humanity,

And for our thoughts to be warped

By the bigotry around the corner;

Our minds have been changed

To hate onto other humans,

Humans who are unique like you

And I; cold hate destroys the

Little peace we have created.

No matter the faith you follow,

Or the race you belong to,

Or orientation, ethnicity, gender,

Profession or age, we are one

And we are all human.

This hate destroys our hearts

And destroys us as an entity.

It harms us all internally,

Ripping apart our heart strings,

Killing us slowly.

My heart is not metal nor hollow;

I move and breathe and dance

And sing and laugh and love;

We all do this to show that we

Are living and breathing humans.

We do this to distinguish ourselves

For we do the same things differently;

We do it in our own unique way

To say who we are to our society.

We are all humans with unique souls,

For I am different from you,

And you are different from the

Person who is next to you,

And we are all different from someone

Who lives in a different country.

Being unique makes us human,

Being human makes us into one solid entity

Composed of unique, individual molecules.

We are composed of unique atoms

Combining into marvelous forms;

We are no different from each other

Than the atoms of life

That form plants and animals,

In that, in the basic sense,

We are all human.

No matter how different we are,

We are always human;

We as humans form humanity,

Individually unique but still human.

We may be made of the same particles,

But we are the same, deep down inside,

And each person is someone worth respecting.

What runs through our veins

Is not golden ichor

Nor brown mud,

But red blood,

For we are all human.

No matter the differences,

We must respect and care

For one another for we all

Are the essence of humanity.

Maybe one day we will open our eyes,

Maybe one day we will see

That we are all human.

Electronic Greeting

Our society has become fixated with technology. Because of this, we humans have become shallow.

Electric Greetings

Forever distant from each other

Despite your proximity to another

Human being, our culture fixates

On being together, yet interaction

Is not encouraged.

The more common this becomes,

The hollower our society grows

And shallows for in us all.

Friends walk side by side,

Talking not to each other,

But to their phones instead.

This will gradually become habit

And an electronic greeting

Will be the norm for all.

When this occurs, when the day arrives

Society will be at a new hollow.

Wandering Earth

We only have one world, one world that we inhabit. We must protect the world to the best of our abilities, preserve the world for future generations.

Wandering Earth

Day by day, month by month, year by year. Eons have passed since my beginnings and time has become mute. I have lost track of my age, lost track of how long I have existed. Time used to be the thing that nourished me, used to be a dear friend. Now, time is a nuisance that never ends.

Throughout my existence, explosions evoke change to my body. Time pushed everything around, wreaking havoc onto me. I was helpless to stop the changes, for all I have been regarded as is a host.

I harbored the entities that evolved and created humanity. I have witnessed every crime humanity has caused. The few good people who helped protect others or tried to preserve me were killed too young. The sanctity of my body has been ravaged by humanity.

Blood has been spilt and stained my soil red. What used to be green, fertile land has become a desolated desert. Beautiful blue bodies of water have become diluted and polluted brown. My soil can no longer support the food that gives life to humans, the rivers can no longer nourish life.

As time progresses, I weep at the sights humanity has wrought. My body feels so ill, I believe I might die. Death seems to be the only certainty for those that inhabit me, but death cannot affect me. It cannot affect me until all of myself has become a wasteland.

Humanity rips apart my body in their own ways. The fumes of my ancient inhabitants pollute my air, weakening my ability to breath. The unnatural man-made chemicals that enter my bodies of water make me sick. Great metal beasts tear apart the fertile land that hosts beautiful animals, beautiful flowers. I shriek from the pain and cry and shiver so strong, I cannot bring myself to bear everything. I try to kill myself.

Ripping apart my body, sending earthquakes all around. Producing hurricanes and tornadoes so powerful that it destroys not only humans, but myself as well. Fires so powerful, no amount of water can quench it. Snow so powerful, it can end life as it moves. Not only do I manage to kill some of the parasites, I also harm myself in such a way, I know that I am one step closer to killing myself.

Try as I might to end my life, everything I do does not do enough to end my life. Time becomes a nuisance. Humanity has become a nuisance. I am the host that succumbs to the nuisances. The parasites have taken control of my body, slowly destroying me as time progresses. The excruciating pain sends my entire body into tears, knowing that I am unable to shake off the parasitic demons.

While time goes on, I suffer. There is nothing that I, Terra Firma, can do. Is there no way to escape this horror? Eventually I shall, however, eons more must pass. I can only wait until my time comes to an end.

Human Blood

It is not right to hurt someone for being different. No one should have to suffer for not following the norm, for being unique. Yet out society chooses to outcast various groups of people. This is wrong and inhumane and becomes criminal when someone is assaulted for simply being different. We are all human, no one is less than that.

Human Blood

Why was I attacked?

I’m just different, a little quirky

And always a little nerdy;

Sure I didn’t have many friends,

And I liked the wrong people…

But I am just who I am.

I can feel the blood rise,

But I can’t move, my bones are broken,

And my whole body quakes.

I feel the blood in my throat,

The blood leaving my body

And staining the ground beneath.

All I ask to my homophobic attackers

Is a two word question: Why me?

I am simply human like you.

How the World is Today

Often times we meet those who are hollow and empty, who follow the norm instead of following the forgotten trail. Instead of opening their eyes to the world and seeing the wonders that are held, majority of society has decided to keep their eyes sewn shut.

Purgatorial Society

It is simple to see with blind eyes,

Eyes that belong to a hollow and empty heart;

It is easy to go where darkness glows,

But the true light is invisible from the blind

Souls that wander in reality, this purgatorial society.

Sports: Cheering and Dining

The Sports Fans’ Favorite Past Time

Look at my boys go as they throw,

Scaring the opposing team with passes

That make Tom Landry proud!

Look at them go!

I see boxes of food, it’s so good,

And the drinks make it even better,

All of this combined makes heaven real.

The pizza and beer, the nuts and wine

Combined with those throws,

It’s enough to make me die happy.

I throw the beer back and let it drop,

Drop down my gullet to my stomach,

Have it fuel my bones

And loosen my brain.

Down into my intestines it goes,

Mixing with what I binged earlier,

Making me full to where I can’t any more,

But yet I want more in my body,

More food in me to enjoy all of life.

Screams and shouts echo across the stadium,

Our team fumbled the ball,

The opponents are running through the field,

Past the 50;

Past the 20;

No, someone stop them!

Touchdown for that team because of an idiot,

My team is full of idiots. Let me drink

And eat some food, let me feel better.

Bartender! Give me vodka! I need to forget that failure,

Need to not feel this idiotic pain.

Love this suite,

My company pays everything,

I get hammered and full and a good view,

All the perks a fan could want.

More screams echo; the opponents scored again.

God damn them and their children, worthless scum,

They better hope their ride home is disaster free.

Thank fully my vodka is ready.

I throw it back and let it burn, burn everything away,

Let it burn me from the inside.

Where is the food?

Hey! Person! Order me a loaded pizza,

I want it here in 10 minutes.

It better be worth it,

Not like those plays my team did,

Now Tom is rolling in his grave!

Such a pathetic team. Let me throw this back again,

Throw back the liquors, let it mix and seep.

Wait, it already be time?

I do nut know what on right now,

Game end and I need leave but too loose,

No feel in body, stomach too full.

Feel like I’ll throw up.

Time to leave – oh god

It hurts. Yeah, got to go.

Car where? I ohnut remember where I park.

The Problem of Colors

Once again, more riots have begun and people attempt to disguise them as protests. People do not listen to the facts. Assumptions are made and balances are disrupted. Fights break out and more lives are lost. Loss is an upsetting fact of life, but a necessary one. Once colors are mentioned, people immediately decide without any knowledge. However, this is not a matter of colors, it is a matter of humanity and judgement, of human to human violence. The soul of humanity keeps being destroyed as hate continues to fester. The longer that this continues the more eroded that the definition of humanity fades away.

The Problem of Colors

Once a balance of colors is lost,

Harm comes to fall on most

Of society, victims of being

Between the violence, seeing

The horrors that color brings,

Making the Reaper gleefully sing

As he collects and sends souls

Down into hell’s holes.

As hatred festers and brews

It seems to be simply amused

By the colors that damage all of humanity,

A society of damnation as all are at fault,

No one group can be blamed in entirety,

For the color spectrum is all to blame.
